Logline.

Spirits in an asylum murder a journalist. Now the friends must investigate.
Setting.

Plot

Simon, our protagonist and aspiring journalist, stumbles upon an abandoned asylum and decides to investigate as he thinks that it would be a compelling story. While exploring the facility, he happens upon a secret that he should not have - the spirits of two patients still residing within the walls. After running and fighting for his life, he is consequently caught and murdered.
When his friends realise his absence of the past two weeks, they decide to go looking for him. Finding his room covered in research papers and pictures, they retrace his steps to the asylum. After being tormented, they find that they are locked in and, one by one, are killed off.

      Client considerations - D1.

      Following our pitch and the questions that were asked, it became apparent that we must talk about funding and what the funding is needed for in our Treatment. This is so the client is able to understand why the funding is needed.

      We also realised that we should go more in depth about our target audiences and explain why they are our target audience, this is so the client is aware that the movie is targeting 15 year olds and above of all genders. This is so we have a target of who we wish to advertise this movie to, generally teenagers to young adults. This is simple as it will help us develop a better understanding of how to target this audience in advertising and because it may help us with demographics too.

      Firstly to improve our treatment, we must improve the information that's on it, this will be done by adding extra headings for the funding and the target audience. This will help because I can then talk about both topics without any problems.

      I also realise that we never covered a storyboard in our posts, therefore I believe we should add one to better describe what is happening in our story. This as a result, will show what is happening and when it happens to depict the scenes in a better method. This allows our story to be followed in a better way without any problems.

      To better understand the reason for funding and show why we want the funding I believe we will research highly funded and low funded movies, this is like how Get Out had a budget of 4.5 million dollars, whereas The Conjuring has 20 million dollars, these differences show us how much editing and pay for actors and actresses is needed along with the pay for props and much more.

      When we went through the pitch we found that the original script didn't contain any context about the demographics to the sub-genres. This is important because specific sub-genres can appeal to different audiences. We needed to include this because the BFI may want to know about 'our' specific target audience. With the original script they would only know about the horror genre. We also decided to add a part about more recent films at which female protagonists are more prominent, this allows us to identify that the target audiences could be possibly changing to more females. As a result, we decide to expand on that answer so that the gender could possibly be females soon. As a result, if the BFI ask for more recent examples for this and if they ask for how genders and target audiences has changed, then we got a perfect example and answer to this.

      After going through our original script, we realised that we had not included details about our influences for our film. This information was added in later because we believed that it would help to present to the BFI about where we intended our film to go, how much it would cost and what meanings we hoped it would hold. By showing that our main influences were more classic horror films such as The Shining, Alien and The Exorcist we hope to show that we want to draw more on nostalgic feelings. This would also make our film stand out from current horror films as this more classic feel would be continued through the editing and sound engineering. As a result of this, we hope that our film would stand put enough and draw the BFI's attention . We didn't specifically talk about our influences in the script and powerpoint, although we did show images of these influenced movies in our script and plan to use it to show that we thought about our influences.

      Our film is called Trespass - it is a jump scare and gore based horror with certain tropes of the psychological genre mixed in.


      The poster is a simple design with the name of the film and a patient from the asylum that the film is mainly set in. This minimalistic imagery will hopefully be eye-catching to the public. We will also use social media sites such as Twitter as it will be easier to gain interest for the film. We had the idea of promoting by dressing someone up as an asylum patient and sending them out into the city centre, taking inspiration from Carrie and the White Walkers from Game of Thrones.

      • Our target audience is people who're interest in the thrill from the adrenaline rush. This is from the fear that's given from these movies.
      • A common age demographic for psychological horror would be: Teens and young adults, this is between the age range of 15-40 year olds.
      • Yet, this doesn't mean that other people are unable to enjoy them too.
      • The genre and sub-genre appeals to both genders, it allows the audience to experiment with their fears and emotions.
      • Yet, most of the recent horror movies have featured female protagonists, therefore most horror movies could be focusing on a female target audience.


      We aim to achieve a minimum of 18 of possible 35 points in multiple ways. The first section is based on cultural content and entails the film being set in Britain and the main actors being British and therefore we'd like to think that we would be able to pick up multiple points because everyone involved on the production of this film is British. Likewise, in the final section which focuses around the cast and crew - we aim to collect more points there.

      • Items are: Macs, cameras, tripod, final cut pro x and the internet.
      • As a result, we don't need to spend much, only things we need to buy are props and clothes.
