Summary of Treatment.
Our program will be ten twenty minute episodes and it will follow the story of our panda, Terry, at first being alone but finding a small rabbit curled up under a tree, also alone. He decides to try wake her up and attempts to befriend her.
The whole series will follow Terry and his attempts to become friends with Twitchy, our perpetually tired rabbit who always seems fed up with Terry's antics, and their adventures as a result of his failed attempts. Despite her cool exterior they grow to be close over the series, much like siblings. It will explore the values of friendship.
Each episode will have a basic individual storyline, but throughout the series there will be a subtle over arching story that will come to a close in the last episode.
We would air it on Cartoon Network as they have shows that appeal to a range of age groups and it is generally a popular channel.
Details of initial research and audience research conducted.
Throughout the task we did a fair amount of research, Ben went onto YouGov and looked at all the reviews and demographics. This allowed me to get a look at the genders at which watched the shows and what people initially thought about the show. Ben decided to ignore the ages though because the ages were rather large (We assume parents did that bit for their children or children lied about their age) As a result Ben was unable to have an idea of the main ages, although he knew that most of these shows' age demographics we rather low since we used to watch most of them when we were younger.
We came up with the idea of animal based characters based of how many kids TV shows actually feature animals, it seems that children enjoy animals as it can break the idea of reality and make the kids have a free imagination. Therefore this gave us a basic idea on what to work on.
Summary of your print based advertising.
We decided that the print based advertising will be placed around Primary Schools and parks since the younger children demographic are usually found around there. We believe parks would be best since they are rarely used for posters and advertisements and therefore there would be a larger space for these advertisements. We also believe that most parents get pets that they must walk and therefore they will walk the pet in the park, this would therefore mean they will most likely see the print based advertisement since it is in an open place at which they could have a rest from walking and read the advertisement for the future. If we do place it in the park another thing will be to place it around most of the entrances or around dog poo bins. This would be because everyone will pass the entrance and therefore it will be able to catch their eye. Near the bins will be good too because if a parent is cleaning up animal dung and throwing it in the bin, then they will notice the poster and therefore read it.
Summary of your online marketing.
We have decided to do some Facebook pop-up ads as they will be able to catch the attention of users. No one usually pays attention to sidebar ads and video ads are usually skipped without any consideration being taken. Pop-up ads are the type of ad that forces itself upon the user, they must close the ad themselves to get onto the page they wish to access. This means that they will most likely read a small part of the ad and if it catches their attention they won’t close it. Therefore we will have a higher chance of our website being visited and us being able to gain in viewers in such a short time.
Reflection on strengths and weaknesses of marketing. What we’d do differently.
Facebook marketing seems to be very hard especially since the users is slowly decreasing. Although a good reason to advertise on Facebook is that now generally older people use it (I.e. parents.) This would mean that the parents of the young children will find the TV show and introduce it to them. If were going to do it again we may consider a YouTube ad too since it would not be too hard and the shorter ads are unable to be skipped so that people are forced to view it. We will most likely advertise on a Minecraft YouTube channel since the younger audiences watch them channels.
Overall evaluation.
Overall we worked well on this project together, however there were some cases of miscommunication. This, in turn, led to some confusion within the group as to who was meant to be doing each job and at which time we were meant to got stuff done by.
This led to some of us struggling with deadlines, so to improve on our work we could have utilised our group chat more. This would have allowed us to discuss our ideas better as well, thus improving the overall work ethic of our group.
Overall we also believe the project went well, this included the making of the video, the music and the in-depth information that we used. Frances spent approximately eight hours in and out of school on drawing the animation. Ben also spent some time near the end making and adding the music and then soon after uploading the video to YouTube which took around an hour to upload alone. Most of our time was used fairly except for near the end at which small parts were noticeable rushed.
